The House: before-ish pictures

Happy Sunday!  We've had a pretty productive day here.  We started the day by visiting a church this morning called Immanuel Nashville.  I have really been hoping to find an awesome church and I think we're going in the right direction.  More on that later though.  Anyway, I did some cleaning and organizing when we got home, and remembered to snap a few "before" pictures of the place.  We've already done a lot to the house in terms of cleaning, taking down some awful curtains, and a few other odds and ends, so technically these are "before-ish" pictures.  I plan on painting the rooms over the next two or three days and we're looking for some new furniture.  We will have a lot to do once our shipment gets here, but this is what we're working with!

This is the home sweet home.  The shrubs need to be trimmed and I want to plant some flowers around the steps.  You can't see it in this picture, but there is a cute bird bath in the front yard that is just asking for some tulips to be planted around it.  Ralph and James pressure washed the outside and trimmed up the overgrown trees and bushes in front of the steps and smaller window.  I think there is a lot of potential here...

So the inside started off looking like this.  The place needed a deep cleaning and the old tenants had left stuff like old, dingy curtains (you can see a few here).  After tossing all of that out and going through a few rolls of paper towels and bottles of cleaning products, we were able to start putting our stuff away.

This is the view from the front door.  I really like our kitchen.  I like how it opens up to the living area and is an open concept and flow.  The blue and cream walls and random brown column have to go though.  I'm looking at a color called Filtered Shade by Valspar now to paint the entire kitchen/living area/hallway.  The barstools and curtains are both Threshold by Target.

If you come from the bedrooms and stand by the ugly brown column, this is the view.  Again, the blue must go, but I like where we have the pictures, and a floor lamp will go in that corner.  The couch (maybe a sectional of sorts?) will go where the fuchsia camping chairs are now.

If you're in the kitchen, this is the view of the living area.  The red door is growing on me.

Down the hallway we have a bathroom and two bedrooms.  I'll post more pictures of the bedrooms later.

Our bathroom is massive.  I plan on putting some kind of storage along the wall, but if we only get one bathroom, this one isn't bad at all.

Here is a small snip of what the master bedroom looks like.  Darby is NOT allowed on the bed, but any time the door is open she just hops right up.  We're going to need to have a serious chat about that habit.  Anyway, the color and the curtains are just terrible in my opinion.  Orange and burgundy?  Not sure about the thought process behind that, but I'm leaning towards painting the room a really light, cool color called Cottontail by Valspar.  The plan is to have a neutral pallet and add color through some paintings and pillows and such.

We have a lot of stuff coming that we are excited to make work in the new house!  I am crossing my fingers that all of my demijohns make it.  I also plan on taking some before pictures of the laundry room, dining room, and back yard.  Those are second in terms of priorities right now, but we'll get to them eventually!  We know it's just a rental, but since we'll be here for three years we plan on trying to make it a little nicer and homey.  Might as well enjoy what you have and enhance things so you can get the most out of it, right?

So that's it for now.  Any cool ideas or suggestions?  We would love to hear them!!
