Tuscany- Day 1

During our travels in Europe, there have been some places we've visited that just didn't quite live up to my expectations.  Tuscany is not one of those.  It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.  The towns in this region are old and have so much charm.  The hills and vineyards and olive groves go on as far as your eye can see.  There was just something magical and romantic about the area that made me never want to leave.

We stayed at an agriturismo near Siena, in a town called Quercegrossa.  Our room was in an old (but fixed up) farm house on the property and the picture above was the view we had from our door.

There were these little snails all over the place.  John Ralph, Darby, and I made a significant dent in the snail population this weekend...the two of us from stepping on them, and Darby from having a little escargot snack when she would walk around.  (Dogs are gross)

On the first night, we drove into the town of Siena.  The town is surrounded by fortress walls, so you had to park outside and walk in.  There were a ton of people out, but we were able to get off the beaten path a little and walk around.

My camera battery died shortly after we entered the city, but between a few shots I fit in and my iphone, I was able to capture some of our night.

The main square in Siena.

Celebrating our 4th of July, Italian style...with a spritz.

A quiet ally we found.

I loved Tuscany so much, I want to try and do it justice in blog posts, so I've decided to write it in a few installments.  Up next:  Monteriggioni and driving through the countryside.
