I really would love to have a puppy. Really, really. But, John Ralph likes to joke about how I need to keep plants alive first. (I can't help those petunias just didn't want to live.) So I've been trying, and what do you know...I have a green thumb.
My tomato plants have been thriving. I just picked a few, actually. We're going to ignore their crispy leaves, and the bottle I have holding the vines up. I keep that plant watered, but it's just so hot here, the leaves stand no chance. And the bottle is just my version of recycling. Making the world a better place, one redneck tomato stake at at time.
The lemon tree, our newest addition, is also doing well. I have researched all about growing lemon trees. I put the proper fertilizer on it and I might even attempt to repot it so it grows even bigger. Look closely and you can see some little lemons hanging on.
Now, my first window boxes didn't do so hot. Neither did the first set of herbs. Petunias, cilantro, and parsley are apparently not my forte. This past weekend I went back to the plant store and bought some new flowers. I think the ivy and little roses will do much better.
I bought my basil along with the first round of petunias and herbs and at first, my basil got a little sad. However, I have revived it and now I have two pots full of delicious green leaves. I think I'm going to try to make my first pesto sauce with it soon!
Now if I could only keep those nasty pigeons away.
So...what do you think? Do I deserve a puppy, or do I deserve a puppy?
The tomatoes look good. Better than mine this year.
