Lago di Garda

Let's face it.  As wonderful as Italy sounded when we were preparing to move here, I think both John Ralph and I were a little bummed to leave Lake Murray behind.  Thankfully, we only live about an hour from Italy's largest lake.  We enjoyed the first warm Saturday of the season there and had a wonderful, relaxing time.

The scenery at the lake is so gorgeous.  There are mountains all around and the beaches are little pebbles.  It wasn't too clear on the day we went, but you can still see a bit of the mountains behind us.

Not too many boats were out, but the ones that were were nice.  I wonder how we can make friends with the people who own the sailboats and yachts?  Surely some Italians must be looking to take in some young, American friends.

John Ralph and Graham braved the cold water (or lost their minds for a brief second, you pick) and went for a dip.  Most of the Italians looked at them like they were crazy.  What I found crazy, however, is how the Italians were dressed for the beach.  They come to the beach in regular clothes.  Jeans, shirts, sneakers, socks, the whole shebang.  Then they find a chair, take all of their clothes off (their bathing suits are underneath...sometimes), and lay out for a while.  When they are ready to go, they stand up, put all of their clothes back on, and walk away like nothing even happend.  I don't know if it's just me, but I have a heat stroke just thinking about putting jeans on after I've been laying in the sun for a few hours.  And socks and shoes?  Please.  Haven't these people heard of sundresses and flip flops?

I can't wait to spend a little more time at Lake Garda and explore some of the towns surrounding it.  We have a few empty weekends coming up, so maybe we can squeeze in a few more trips to relax before John Ralph heads off on deployment!

Our trip to Cinque Terre was amaaaaazing, and pictures are soon to come, but for now, Ciao!
