Lago di Como

So, I'm not quite sure why we waited until the weekend before we left Italy to visit Lake Como, because it is definitely one of the country's gems.  The area is beautiful.  Lovely mountains, crystal blue lake, colorful villas.  No wonder George Clooney has a house there.

The area probably makes my top 3 list of favorite places in Italy.  It's like if you took tuscany and mixed it with Cinque Terre, you would end up with Lake Como.  I'll just stop talking and let the pictures do all the work...

We needed to charge our phones, figure out directions, and make an actual game plan for our trip, so we stopped in the town of Como to get our act together.

I really don't drink soda except on rare occasions, but I will definitely miss the occasional Lemon Soda.  So refreshing on a hot summer day.

Little cafĂ© pup, trying to act good enough for a scrap of food.

We ended up staying in Bellagio and were greeted with a lovely rainbow.

Darby had her first real water encounter in Bellagio.  She was not sure about those waves in the beginning.

Just put it on a postcard already.

The only picture of yours truly.

Darby also couldn't quite figure out those water sheep (aka, ducks).

My dinner the first night wasn't the greatest.  It was basically pickled fish.  Not bad, just not what I wanted.  I made up for it the next day by buying 10 euro worth of fresh fruit from a roadside stand.

There are a lot of little towns along the shore.  It made for some really pretty views at night.

We rented a little apartment with a private garden.  Darby loved the garden, and we loved the convenience.  The flowers were just a nice bonus.

Everything was so lush and colorful.

On Saturday, we found a secluded little area and gave Darby swimming lessons.  She's a natural and had so much fun jumping around the water.

The town we found for the swimming adventure was a tiny little place, and we basically had the whole area to ourselves.  We ended up eating a pretty good lunch of bruschetta and spritz while eavesdropping on some local italian lunch conversations.

Italian buildings.  So dirty, but oh so lovely.  The perfect combination of grime and glam.

Side note:  I really want to name a future child Jacopo.  Ralph isn't so sure about that idea.

So, there you have it.  Another great trip in the books, and another location added to our list of "places to explore some more".  I wonder who I need to talk to in order to secure a summer villa.  Anyone have George's number?
