Last Sunday we were a little exhausted from Venice, so we decided to have a relaxing day. We had originally planned a trip to Lake Garda, but it was the first weekend of the Italian holiday month (yes, they take an entire month) so I figured it would be best to stay clear of the autostrada. Our next plan was to go to a cliff jumping place I had heard about, but that turned out to be around 3 hours away...uphill. Not in my little stick shift, no way. Not willing to totally scrap our Sunday plans of hanging out beside water, we decided to head out in search of a nearby river. I had never been, but figured it couldn't be too hard to find. When we first pulled up, we only saw trails leading into the woods. It wasn't exactly what we expected, but we were running out of options. After gathering all of our stuff, all it took was about a two minute walk and voila! we were at the river!
The banks were tiny little pebbles, and in the middle of the river was a nice sand/pebble island. It wasn't too deep to cross, so we set up camp in the middle of the island. It was the perfect place to sit, read, and relax. The water comes down from the mountains, so it is really cold, but after sitting in the sun for a while it feels great!
It was SO nice to have a girls day. I really miss my girl friends. I have a few awesome ladies to hang out with here in Vicenza, but sometimes it's just nice to sit down with someone you've known practically your whole life and just talk. Our new friend Katelyn (downstairs neighbor's cousin) came along too and it was fun to have her with us so we could pick her brain and talk about all kinds of things.
I can't wait to go back next summer once John Ralph is home. It would be so fun to take a grill and hang out for an afternoon. In the meantime, I plan on going back plenty of times while the weather is still warm. Next up in our Italian adventures: Wine tasting! Ciao for now!
