Life as of lately

Ciao friends.  I'll be surprised if anyone is still reading this thing, because let's just be totally honest, I've been a sucky blogger over the last two months.  Not to be all melodramatic, but it has been quite an adjustment to figure out a routine without my other half around.  Highlights of my days have consisted of microwave dinners, care packages, and soaking up every second of Skype dates.  My first priority has been to learn how to best support my husband.  Everything else has just had to fall in line somewhere behind that.

This last week, however, was all jazzed up because Ashley came to visit!  She did an awesome job exploring Italy.  I wasn't able to take off work (with the exception of the "mental health day" I granted myself on Friday), but she just grabbed the bull by the horns and explored the great town of Vicenza and surrounding areas all by herself.  I get off work in the middle of the day, so we were able to go on some fun afternoon adventures.  I had a BLAST with her.  Start saving your pennies, Ashley, because Paris is calling our names!

Our downstairs neighbor had family staying in his apartment half of the time Ashley was here (so nice and so fun!), and last Saturday we all boarded the train and headed to Venice.  I have been several times, but there are always little gems tucked away in the streets of the old city.  I enjoyed showing them all of my favorite parts and finding new things to explore.  We wandered around, taking in the sights and sounds.  It was very crowded and very hot, but I think we made the best of it!  Here are some pictures from our first adventure.  Enjoy!

Side note:  I have been hunting for some pictures to put on our walls.  I want things that will remind us of Italy, but will work in any house we live in.  I saw these watercolors and decided they would be perfect for our apartment, and they were a steal at only 10 euro a piece!  A much better alternative to the 1800 euro painting I fell in love with in Portofino.

There is much more to come on my adventures with Ashley.  Including a river trip, wine tasting, getting lost in the countryside, and a trip to Florence!  Stay tuned.  Ciao for now!
