Mexican't

Hands down, Italians can do pasta.  They can do pizza.  They can do cheese and bread.  And gelato.  Oh my word, can they do gelato.  However, we aren't convinced that they have Mexican food down pat.

John Ralph and I decided to try a new place for dinner yesterday.  It was already 9:00 when we went out, and having decided we had had our fill of pizza for a few days we just went to a Mexican restaurant down the street from us.

This was the most peculiar Mexican food we've ever seen.

Since the descriptions were in Italian, we both went with what we know.  I ordered tacos and John Ralph got burritos.  Here is where it gets interesting.  Imagine a flour tortilla with meaty spaghetti sauce, zucchini, squash, potatoes, carrots, and mozzarella cheese.  I'm not kidding y'all.

It didn't taste bad.  But it sure didn't taste like any other taco I've ever had.

John Ralph and I got the biggest giggle out of it all because there was another American family in the place and we all had these "What the heck is this?!" looks on our faces.  Definitely not La Fogatas.  We are thinking about looking into what it would take to open a taco truck right off post.  These people don't know what they're missing.  For now, however, I think we'll be sticking to gelato for dinner.

  1. This post had me laughing so hard! There is nothing like good Mexican food! That is perhaps our favorite part of being in Texas! As a teacher, I LOVED when my kids would bring me made from scratch tamales and empanadas! OMG! You will have to show them how it is done :)
